Nationally we recognize that the number of children ages 5 to 17 (which is typical school age) in foster care is 268,517. (Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) released November 30, 2017) So as Court Appointed Special Advocates education is a priority. This training session will discuss how to best advocate for children’s education through topics that include: Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), 504s and other records; how to handle suspensions; and every day tips like the best time to meet with a counselor or who to talk to about obtaining information on a child. Additionally, one of our own Oklahoma County CASA volunteers, Carol Brogan, will talk on her experience both as a court appointed special advocate and her career in the school system as a teacher and administrator. This is a repeat of the training that took place last year in March on Educational Advocacy.

Training will take place in the 3rd floor conference room.
